HID

HID, or High-Intensity Discharge, lighting is a popular lighting system used in hydroponics. HID lights produce a high level of light intensity and are energy-efficient, making them ideal for growing plants indoors. They are available in two types: Metal Halide (MH) and High-Pressure Sodium (HPS). MH bulbs produce a cooler, bluish-white light that is ideal for the vegetative stage of plant growth, while HPS bulbs produce a warmer, reddish-orange light that is better for the flowering stage.

Ceramic Metal Halide (CMH) lighting is a relatively new type of HID lighting that is gaining popularity in hydroponics. CMH bulbs produce a full spectrum of light that closely mimics natural sunlight, making them ideal for all stages of plant growth. They are also more energy-efficient than traditional HID lights and have a longer lifespan.

HID lighting requires a ballast to regulate the electrical current and voltage for the bulb. Digital ballasts are preferred over magnetic ballasts as they are more efficient and produce less heat. It is important to match the wattage of the ballast to the wattage of the bulb for optimal performance.
